Welcome at Cortijo Los Almendros! We are pleased that you have chosen to stay in our house! We hope you will have a pleasant holiday. There is also a user manual in the house, both in Dutch and in English.
Below are some tips for an even more pleasant stay!
First of all, our house is located in a natural park. From our house you can make the most beautiful walks. So little risk for the Corona virus Covid-19!
In the house there are a number of walking maps, these are also easily available at the tourist office in Frigiliana and cost € 1, - each.
A walk is easy to obtain and one of them I do not want to deprive you of. If you walk from our house a little bit to the right (back in the direction of Frigiliana), you will see a small road on the left after about 100 meters. This road is split into two small roads; one on the left down, one on the right up. Take the small road on the right. Follow this road, keeping to the right until you reach an asphalted road where you can turn right and left. Then turn left. At a certain point you will come across signs with 'El Azebuchal'. This is a small hamlet that used to be a passage for transporting fish to Granada (these were transported by donkeys). You follow the signs and eventually arrive in the hamlet, where there is one restaurant where you can enjoy delicious local specialties. It is open daily (except Mondays) until 3 pm. After that they really don't serve food anymore so be on time! The walk takes about an hour, so if you leave around 1 o'clock, you're definitely on time. Always take enough water with you when you go for a walk.
In the vicinity of the house there are also a number of nice restaurants. One of them is about 400 meters back in the direction of Frigiliana, and is called 'La venta de Frigiliana'. A nice, authentic restaurant with a beautiful view! Once a week, on Wednesday evenings, fun flamengo evenings are held here. I say nice because it's not such a bad tourist event, but with really good, professional dancers. You do need to make a reservation in advance!
If you turn left from our house in the direction of Torrox, you will come across a sign with Los Caracoles after about 800 meters. This unique location has had several owners in recent years (including 'eliza was here'), but does not really want to get off the ground. That's a pity, because the place is top and the view is brilliant. At the moment there is a Spanish owner in it and for the food - although not really something to worry about - you don't have to go, but for a drink with a tapa it is a great location!
Then we go back to Frigiliana, where we also find Bar El Cerro a nice tip. This is an outdoor restaurant with a small pool (handy if you have children with you) and where you can eat for little. You can get there by car just by following the road to Frigiliana, at some point you will see a sign with the announcement. You can also take a walk to Frigiliana, maybe you will feel a little more 'satisfied'.... A nice way to get there on foot is by walking down the little road before La Venta and following it. You walk down quite steeply. At a certain moment you come at an intersection with five little roads, you have to follow the road most to the left. If you keep following this road, at some point you'll end up at a number of large water tanks and a sign 'la posada morisca'. If you go to the right, you'll end up at Bar El Cerro. If you get lost that is no problem; there are enough houses and enough people walking around to ask for directions. Also this walk takes about an hour.
Frigiliana is a very nice village where you have several nice restaurants ... to discover for yourself! One is our favorite, that's 'El Mirador' in the old part of the village. This place really has a beautiful view, good wines and good (fortunately not standard) food! You have to bring a well-filled wallet....
Although we find Nerja a great place with a good beach for children (Burriana Beach on the east side of the town, incidentally, we find in Burriana the 'buyer' AYO (praised in all the guides you can think of) the most fun) we often go to other beaches because more to the east you have beautiful small bays (moreover, lately we stumble on Burriana also about the Dutch that we do not like).
If you drive eastwards from Nerja along the coast (the N340a), you have some beautiful little bays. We find the bay of Maro (follow signs 'playa') and El Canuelo very cozy. A little further down the road you have a beautiful road that also ends in a partly nudist beach, but if you wear your own bikini, you will be able to enjoy the sunshine.
